Enough With The FLAT URLS – I Can’t Take It Anymore!
I don’t know what it is but in the past 24 hours I have seen so many “flat URLs” that I can’t take it anymore!
This is a flat URL – www.biggestloser.com – www.turbosnake.com - www.magiccrumbs.com
These URLs use initial capitals – www.BiggestLoser.com – www.TurboSnake.com – www.MagicCrumbs.com
Which of these is easier to read? Which do you think is more memorable/brandable? Clearly the domain names/URLs using initial capital letters are MUCH easier to read and studies have actually shown that they are easier to remember as our brains follow the peaks and valleys of the upper and lower case letters….
So please, please, please make sure that EVERYWHERE you use your domain name/URL you use initial capital letters…from business cards to tv ads to billboard ads, print ads and email signatures and beyond….
In pay per click ads alone, we have witnessed increases in Click Thru Rates (CTR) by as much as 20% – 25% by simply making the display URL in initial capital letters…..you’ve got nothing to loose and plenty to gain….

Very true. It is amazing to see big brands spending millions of dollars and making this mistake. Kind of makes you wonder.
